Guesthouse at Rose Harbour, an abandoned whaling station

Nestled in the beauty of Rose Harbour, this charming restaurant and guest house provides a peaceful escape in Haida Gwaii. With a rich history, it was initially a Haida village before becoming a whaling station in the early 1900s. After whaling was outlawed, the site was abandoned and later purchased by a group in the 1980s, some of whom still reside there. Visitors can discover its history and see how the current residents have practiced sustainable and largely self-sufficient living for over 35 years.

• All washrooms in Rose Harbour are outdoor and non-flushing.

• Due to the remoteness of this site, the guest house is truly basic: no electricity, no running water, and no flushing toilets.

• There are six guest rooms with a mix of single and double beds.

• Four rooms are in the main building, heated by a wood stove. Two outside rooms are not heated.

Experience Southern Gwaii Haanas, including a stop at the famous UNESCO World Heritage site of SG̱ang Gwaay.
