About Us
Work for Moresby Explorers

We employ twenty-five people from May to September, and we typically have three to five job openings for new staff each summer. These job positions allow motivated, enthusiastic individuals to experience the beauty of Gwaii Haanas while working in a fun, positive, informal team environment.

• We care.

• We work hard to create a safe and engaging work environment.

• We put time into training, supporting and helping our employees to grow.

• We understand the importance of good wages. We have a company minimum wage of $25 hr. We also offer benefits to long-term employees.

This full-time position lasts from May to September. Duties include driving Hurricane Zodiacs with up to 12 guests, educating about the area’s history, and guiding through Haida village sites and forest paths, ensuring everyone’s safety and enjoyment. Early in the season, you will assist senior guides, but once ready, you’ll lead tours independently and be responsible for safety and weather decisions.

You will assist with equipment maintenance, building projects, and office tasks on non-guiding days. Since we start tours about an hour’s drive from Sandspit, you’ll need to drive a 15-passenger van on logging roads. Previous experience isn’t necessary, but you must learn quickly and work independently.

Job requirements include a Small Vessel Operator Proficiency certificate, MEDA3, Class 4 driver’s license, and at least 40 hours of Wilderness First Aid (ideally 80-100 hours, preferably with Slipstream).

Assist with daily operations at the Seaport B&B, our waterfront accommodation in Sandspit. Responsibilities include meal preparation, guest welcome, building maintenance, and room flipping. Additional tasks involve tracking lodging inventory and cleanliness, reporting maintenance needs, and responding to guest inquiries. This role demands autonomy, organization, and strong customer service skills.

As a float camp cook, you’ll prepare meals for 8-12 clients at our floating cabin in Gwaii Haanas. Our groups stay overnight at this fully off-grid lodge.

You will alternate shifts with another cook: two weeks on, two weeks off. This includes prep days in town, two weeks at the cabin with one overlap day. During your days off, you’ll stay at our base in Sandspit.

Expect to stay busy, serving meals to tour groups nearly every night. You’ll plan and cook meals, maintain cleanliness, make beds, and ensure guests feel welcome. Being self-motivated, friendly, and able to improvise is essential. You should handle both solitary and group settings comfortably.

This full-time position runs from May to September. Under the guidance of an experienced office manager, you will learn office duties and independently handle many tasks.

Duties include answering calls, writing emails, booking clients, and providing service information. You’ll also prepare simple lunches for trips and maintain office cleanliness. As part of our team, you’ll take on various tasks like prepping kayaks, organizing the shop, and solving daily problems. You should be able to follow directions and work independently.

Previous office and tourism experience is a plus. A friendly, outgoing personality, a willingness to learn, and decision-making skills are essential. This role demands commitment and long hours but is varied and interesting, with opportunities to join tours and explore Gwaii Haanas.

This is a great entry into the tourism and hospitality industry. You will prepare meals, clean the base, and assist with maintenance. You may also need to support the float camp manager or Seaport staff in making beds, cleaning, and preparing meals. Living in Sandspit is not required.

While each job is demanding and functions full-time, we encourage everyone to understand each other’s positions and collaborate as a team to accomplish daily tasks. Many of our staff opt to live at the office, where we offer room and board. Joining Moresby Explorers presents an opportunity to acquire diverse skills within a lively, team-focused atmosphere. Given the length of our season, it’s an ideal summer job for students. We are open to considering applications for work experience placements from colleges or outdoor programs.

We accept applications for these positions at any time, though our hiring usually takes place from December to February annually. To apply, please send your resume to [email protected] (P.O. Box 127, Sandspit BC, V0T 1T0). Include a cover letter specifying which position(s) you’re applying for and detailing the skills and strengths you would bring to our team. We would also appreciate knowing your reasons for wanting to work with us, how you came across our organization, and any additional information you would like to share. We are always eager to find staff who wish to return year after year.
